After Circuit Breaker where deliveries were common, everyone got used to staying home and ordering delivery. Going downstairs to dabao your food, aiya lazy lah, just order delivery!
With Singaporeans being more reliant on food delivery as technology blooms and the convenience of having food delivered to your doorstep without leaving the house, the food delivery industry blooms too. Riders also have flexible work hours and can sign up with any mode of transport they have - even by foot! Flexible schedule, convenient leh!
With this, let’s evaluate the delivery riders’ job!
For Grab, you can choose to deliver food or parcels. For trip fares, there is a minimum guaranteed based component on top of distance adjustment. There are also incentive schemes in place and they are Zone Boosts Gems: Earn more per trip based on time and location and Quest Gems: All-week targets with great rewards to motivate riders. For Van Drivers
Taken from Glassdoor, being a delivery rider with Grab has a rating of 3.2 out of 5, with many commenting that the job is very flexible and has attractive remunerations for low barriers of entry.
Foodpanda offers up to $520 per referred friend to be a rider with them and up to $100 per week of other incentives. Free bicycle rentals are also available if you do not have your own mode of transport.

Taken from Indeed, being a delivery rider with Foodpanda has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 in 2020, with many commenting that work life balance is in place and the work environment is great with helpful and friendly colleagues.
Taken from Indeed, NinjaVan has a lower rating compared to the other delivery companies at 3.6 out of 5. Reviews showed that working hours are very long with no overtime pay and that it can be a stressful job as there are many parcels to be delivered. However, you only have to deliver parcels within a 5km radius and can deliver based on the area you bid for.

Reviews from Glassdoor show that the work culture in DHL is fun and emphasizes employment engagement while providing impressive training. They are reported to have benefits above the market rate too and have an open management style, which employees value.
Lalamove has a review rating of 3.6 out of 5 based on Glassdoor. Reviews state that there is flexibility, but the driver management support team can be improved.
The delivery industry is definitely growing as we get used to the new normal and as technology improves. With a lot of flexibility and work life balance, being a delivery driver is a good option for some additional income or for a full time job which allows you to choose your own working hours!
