How To Become a Security Officer in Singapore?

Here is a summary of the requirements to be a security officer:

A Security Officer licence is required if you are employed to perform any of the following functions: patrolling or protecting another person's property, keeping another person's property under surveillance, acting as a bodyguard or bouncer, screening individuals as part of your regular duties, seeking entry into any public place or other premises, and controlling traffic under the Road Traffic Act (Cap. 276).

The WSQ security courses that must be completed in order to earn a security license in Singapore are known as Basic Licensing Units (BLUs).

  • (A) Guard and Patrol (Provide Guard and Patrol Services)
    • 16 hour training course
    • Essentials on carrying out guarding and patrolling duties
    • 2 hour assessment by POLWEL Co-operative Society Limited, a credit co-operative for serving members of the Singapore Police Force and the business arm of Police Central Welfare Fund (PCWF) on the 3rd day
    • A mandatory security training course to be a security officer

  • (B) Incident Response (Handle Security Incidents and Services)
    • 24 hour course; 3 days from 9am to 6pm each day
    • Equips learners with knowledge and skills on how to apply procedures appropriate to situations in responding to security-related incidents.
    • 2 hour assessment by POLWEL on the 4th day
