Not only at job interviews, but introducing yourself professionally is important when you are in networking events or any other professional events and even when you want to reach out to recruiters for job opportunities that are not posted online. And yes, you can get a job by cold emailing recruiters of the company. Remember that introductions are the first thing you will say when you meet new people in a professional setting. So you should not mess it up and give a wrong first impression.

  • Understand the context
  • If it is at job interview you need to introduce yourself with your name, what you did and why you applied for the position. You need to impress the recruiter or interviewer therefore give the details about you. For example: hello, my name is (your name). It is nice to meet you and thank you for making time to speak with me. In my last job I was working as (job position) and my responsibilities are (what you did). I know about your company from (source) and knowing the reputation of your company, it would be my honor to be a part of your team.

  • Tell them who you are
  • Other than mentioning your name, you should also tell what you do. Mention about your job and things that you do at your job. You can also speak about your interest and hobbies that way the other person may know more about yourself.

  • Keep your introduction short
  • It would be great if you could spend less than one minute to introduce yourself verbally. Don't make the other person you are talking to get bored.

  • Show positive body language
  • This is important too. You don’t want to make the other person you are talking to assume the wrong things just because you don’t smile, no eye contact looking left and right or your body towards another direction not to other person you have a conversation with. Make yourself looks excited and appreciate the other person you just meet.
