Solutions Engineer – Ethernet & Transport




Solutions engineers in VIAVI are expected to be subject matter experts in specified fields and technologies, working in a sales environment to support VIAVI products and business plans. We are looking for professionals with knowledge and experience in telecom networking, specifically knowledge of ethernet technology, applications in telecom service providers, understanding and testing network issues and performance.




The responsibilities include:



  • Listening to understanding concerns and challenges of telecom customers - including telecom service providers, network equipment manufacturers, network users such as government entities and enterprises – issues faced with network quality, performance, turn-up, validation, etc.

  • Engage in detailed technical and applications discussions with customers to appropriately position solutions from VIAVI to help customers achieve their results.

  • Work closely with sales teams and sales partners to drive product sales for the selected technologies or application areas.

  • Contribute to business growth - identify and seed potential new opportunities, lead or be in a cross-functional team to identify growth opportunities and execute on growth plans. Support marketing programs to build awareness and advantages of VIAVI products and solutions.

  • Work with product units collaboratively to provide feedback on customer application/feature needs, product gaps and/or improvements to improve VIAVI competitive position in the market, provide market and competitive feedback and work with business units to get what is needed to win.


Qualifications - External




We are currently looking for a suitable candidate to support our operations in South-East Asia.


The position will be in Singapore and will require travel within South-East Asia and occasionally beyond.


If your experience and knowledge include some of these, then we’d be interested:



  • Carrier or enterprise ethernet services performance management and customer experience, including issues such as latency, bandwidth performance, end-to-end service provisioning, and troubleshooting. Experience with performance management tools/systems would be considered added bonus.

  • Troubleshooting skills with network protocols such as DNS, TCP/IP, SMTP & SNMP; administration of networking devices such as routers and switches; understanding of network security management and VM set-up.

  • Network topologies/ architecture (fronthaul, backhaul, transport, etc), ethernet standards (from 1G to 100G and beyond). Knowledge of and experience with last-mile access technologies such as DSL or DOCSIS, and business/enterprise ethernet services, wireless, fiber optics would be added considerations.

  • Ethernet service provisioning, trouble shooting or testing – test processes and test instruments (VIAVI or equivalent), either as a user, in a service provision role or in test solutions provider.

  • Linux Administration, Installation & Maintenance.

  • 3-5 years of experience in the fields and environments described above. We are open to making exceptions for outstanding candidates showing strong willingness to learn. We are open to candidates with Linux installation and administration skills even if they have fewer years of work experience with the technologies and applications listed earlier.

  • Strong communications - ability to listen, present technological and product information, articulate complex ideas. Communicate value propositions. Good written and speaking style.

  • Demonstrable track-record of success in a sales environment – target oriented, good management of time and priorities, working with cross functional groups.

  • Can work autonomously and work with a team. Self-learner.

  • Experience with customer interactions in pre-sales, projects or and putting together commercial value propositions.

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally. Travel in normal times may be up to 40% of work days, whenever travel opens up.

Job Profile


The Solution Consultant is part of a team responsible for supporting and enabling sales of the VIAVI Visibility, Intelligence and Analytics (VIA) portfolio of Core & Radio Access assurance solutions, including the recently acquired EXPANDIUM products across the Asia Pacific region.




In this role the Solution Consultant will be expected to work closely with the relevant Sales team(s) and with the VIA Business Unit.




The Solution Consultant will need to understand how VIAVI and competitive solutions are deployed in their target account(s) and/or geography, the technical and strategic drivers behind the deployment and how those drivers may change over time. The Solution Consultant must also take a proactive approach to ensure current and future VIAVI products and services support business objectives and counter competitive threats.




The Solution Consultant will work closely with the sales team and take responsibility for high-level technical demonstrations of VIAVI product solutions in front of customers and in joining selected VIAVI events (technical seminars, webinars and roadshows). The individual will have to transfer product and related technology knowledge to the Sales team and in conjunction with Sales, will be accountable for the bookings number of the related product portfolio in the assigned region/account(s).




This is a home-based role with significant travel requirements (currently suspended).




Responsibilities:



  • Drive technical aspects of VIA solution sales to assigned territory/accounts in the APAC region by demonstrating how our solution capabilities create value for customers and develop use cases through:Leading technical discovery and account review workshops

    Presenting Solution capabilities & value to both customers and internal stakeholders

    Leading Proof of Concept exercises when necessary

    Leading the delivery of customer-specific Solution Descriptions and technical RFx responses


  • Deliver high level pre-sales technical support to our customers and sales teams on the VIAVI VIA portfolio: mobile network, service and customer assurance across all network technologies covering 2/3/4/5G and associated services.

  • In conjunction with Sales, to be accountable for the bookings number of the related product portfolio in defined accounts and/or territories.

  • Understand how VIAVI products are deployed and used in the account(s), the various technical and strategic drivers behind each deployment throughout the lifecycle by ensuring regular contact with installed base customers to confirm that ongoing value is being realized.

  • Share experiences and best practices across the VIAVI global Solution Consultant team members.

  • Facilitate customer feedback to the VIA Business Unit (Product Line/R&D) in order to ensure our soutions continue to meet customer demands.

  • Self-motivated in penetrating opportunities and accounts for sales enablement

  • Measure progress, gaps and recovery actions when needed.

  • Travel Required: generally circa 50% + (currently suspended).


Required Qualifications & Experience:



  • Relevent Technology Degree with a degree in either Telecommunications Science or Electronics Engineering a plus.

  • Ideally a minimum 5 years post graduate experience in Telecommunications Core networks engineering.

  • Understanding of mobile network concepts across Radio and Core network.

  • Understanding of both physical and virtual network deployments, preferably microservices understanding.

  • Particular experience in analyzing and interpreting network/service/customer data in support of developing and justifying business use cases is also sought.

  • Proven experience in using/pre-sales technical support with major Network Assurance Solution vendors.

  • Fluency in both spoken and written English, Mandarin also preferred.

Sales Director- APJ, Wireless (Labs)




Summary of Role:


The 5G Wireless Lab Market remains in a growth phase with new opportunities created by the emergence of OpenRAN and an increased number of new product introductions targeting RAN and Core Test requirements. A new senior business development/sales role has been created to develop the regional and sub market strategy for Wireless Lab market in collaboration with the business unit. Establish coverage plans and resource mapping for new markets and sub markets. Ensure eco-systems are well mapped and covered from NEM Labs to System Integrators and establish new business models like TaaS, LaaS, SaaS (Test/Lab/Software as a Service), Rental models etc. To effectively and efficiently achieve sales metrics and maximise growth targets at an overall portfolio level as well as new segments /products. Develop and design campaigns and business development plans partnering with Marketing, Product Lines and Sales. Lead, develop and motivate the APJ sales team to deliver on, or exceed strategic sales plans and maximise growth.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:


Drive and own Funnel growth across all product segments, especially new segments and products


Drive and own Wins , strategic partnerships in these strategic areas


Orchestrate and drive cadence for weekly funnel reviews and forecast in working with sub regional sales managers to ensure sales targets and plans are achieved


Establish a review mechanism for Key and Emerging accounts on a Quarterly/Monthly basis


Maintain and Establish key customer relationships and implement strategies for expanding the company’s customer base. This will include liaison with other regional sales teams to effectively service global and key accounts


Work closely with business unit management to develop and execute regional business development and growth plans


Work with regional support team, business unit to ensure high levels of post-sales customer satisfaction


The role is also expected to play a key part in managing liaison with the business unit for helping to co-ordinate marketing, requirements capture, new product introductions successfully.




Skills and Competencies:


Technical Degree, preferably related to Communications /Wireless


Experience and skills operating at senior levels in relevant Customer Accounts/Industry


Experience in selling ‘big ticket’ complex systems /solutions


Should have had direct management of $50-100M of business


Extensive experience across all APJ territories and breaking into new markets/ territories


Demonstrated ability to hunt and develop new markets and accounts. Relentless and enthusiastic approach to win deals, create deals and always hungry and curious


Strong ability to motivate and hold teams accountable within Viavi


Experience with feeding competitive analysis and customer needs into product, account and capture strategies


Successful implementation and continuous improvement of sales processes


Articulate and perceptive to local and international cultural differences. Strong inter-personal skills


Excellent verbal and written communication skills
